The Flight Steward

Offline-first PWA for cabin crew to track first-class drink and meal orders by seat.

The need

Service in the premium cabin runs on memory and a paper pad during boarding, taxi and flight, when there is no connectivity. Flight Steward keeps every order on the device and works with zero signal.

What was hard

  1. 1

    Offline-first storage

All data lives in IndexedDB with versioned schema migrations, so the app works with no signal.

  2. 2

    AI screenshot import

A photo of the passenger or pre-order list becomes seat records, classified against a strict JSON schema.

  3. 3

    Overlapping screenshot merge

Half-read rows from overlapping screenshots collapse into full ones, and spelling variants of one meal unify.

  4. 4

    Seat swap state machine

A seat swap is modeled as an explicit state machine rather than ad hoc edits.

  5. 5

    Fast ordering

Single-tap drink ordering over a drink catalog, meal inventory math and ranked name autocomplete keep service quick.

  6. 6

    Quota and diagnostics

A per-user daily import quota and an on-device diagnostics ring buffer keep costs bounded and bugs traceable.
